So what is shareoutloud? We want our new blog to help share what we know: the hard-won wisdom of getting on in this world. It sounds a little ambitious, and at times we quake in our sandals. But the bottom line is this: we can offer one another wisdom, insight and information. The most important part of this blog is you, the reader, who will use it to “share out loud.” We ask that you be kind and mindful in your comments, and that’s about it. Shareoutloud will be moderated by Lendora Johnson, our ace media specialist, who will keep an eye on things.

We plan posts on the things that we know: caregiving, making strong families, helping individuals with disabilities thrive in our communities, educating children with multiple needs, and supporting families with children on the autism spectrum and being advocates for all of the above.

Blog authors will introduce themselves, so let me start with a six-word bio: Jersey girl comes south for love. I moved to Virginia when my husband and I got married in 1978. My son is in graduate school and my husband is a middle school teacher. I began my career as a journalist, and in true journalistic fashion I intend to use the people I know and love in my posts – respectfully, of course. My family is going through its own caregiving journey, and the wise counsel of the individuals who shared their thoughts on caregiving in our first post has been very helpful.
