At Lutheran Family Services of Virginia (LFSVA), our shared mission is to make the world a more loving place by providing services and assistance to empower communities, families, and individuals in their journey to well-being.

The scourge of killings of African Americans in our country, most recently George Floyd, is in direct opposition to our mission. As an organization, we are saddened and angered by the violence perpetrated on people of color in this country — and we realize it impacts each of us differently. It lays bare the underlying, systemic racism that still exists in our institutions and our communities. It is also evidence of how far we have to go to live up to the ideals of this country, that all people are created equal, have equal protection under the law, and the basic right to life and liberty.

At LFSVA we respect and honor the diversity of the people with whom we work and whom we support. We collectively grieve these senseless, unjust killings and condemn racism in all forms. Injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere. We recommit ourselves to the work of making the world a more just and loving place by supporting people of all races, religions, abilities, and identities.
