The staff and Board of Directors of Lutheran Family Services of Virginia are deeply saddened by the death of Board member Rob Burger on February 6. Rob passed away from cancer at the age of 48, having served on the Board for six years.

“He was always true to this deep faith and commitment to the church and our organization,” said CEO Ray Ratke. “His energy, thoughtfulness, and vision on the board will be deeply missed.”

Rob’s Lutheran connections ran deep. His family, which includes his wife Frances and children Catherine and William, are members of Epiphany Evangelical Lutheran Church in Richmond. Prior to the family’s move to Richmond in 2012, they lived in Norfolk and were active members of First Lutheran Church, where LFSVA Board Chair Rick Goeres is pastor. In both churches, Rob served as Congregational Council President.

“Rob adored his family, loved the Lord and was proud of our LFSVA ministry that we do together for the sake of all God’s children,” said Pastor Goeres. “He brought clarity to discussions and focus to our mutual ministry on the Board. He was a gift, and I cherish his witness.”

Rob was a graduate of Washington and Lee University and the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond. He worked at SunTrust in Richmond beginning in 2012. Rob was active in his participation on the LFSVA Board, serving as Secretary and Vice-Chair and helping the organization revise the bylaws twice. His expertise and passion will be greatly missed.
