As part of the LFSVA family, foster parents receive training that focuses on a holistic approach to care and support for both the youth in care and the parent(s). Our exceptional staff is available to help be a guide on your journey through the foster care and adoption system. We have ongoing training to help keep foster parents up to date with new information and offer continued support. We acknowledge and celebrate the success of our families through appreciation dinners, holiday celebrations and get-togethers throughout the year. We also offer 24/7 on-call support, to be there in good times and tough times.
LFSVA offers a continuum of care, including outpatient mental health services, mentoring, and post-adoption services to support youth at all levels of care.
We are one of the only programs in Virginia using the SAFE home study methodology, which is a research-based process to assess and identify supports for prospective families.
Our treatment foster care team and foster families have been trained in curriculums created by the National Trauma Child Stress Networks (NCTSN), which focuses on understanding the reactions children have to trauma and loss.
We offer families respite when you need it, depending on the needs of the youth in the home.
100% of LFSVA foster parents who responded to our survey reported that LFSVA staff have been supportive to parents when it comes to placement of the youth in the home, treatment team meetings for youth, on-call responses from staff and working with the youth’s biological family.
100% of LFSVA foster parents who responded to our survey reported that they plan to continue to foster or adopt with LFSVA over the next year.
Through our unique training, experienced staff and culture of caring, we strive to set up every foster family for success.
