abundant possibilities

Lutheran Family Services of Virginia > Hearts & Hands 2018

Hearts & Hands Awards

This year, Lutheran Family Services of Virginia will be celebrating our 130th anniversary of service. We will again be sponsoring the Hearts & Hands service award, first celebrated in 2008 in honor of our 120th anniversary and again in 2013. As in previous years, the award will honor individuals whose passion, energy and delight in service are changing lives and creating brighter futures.

These exceptional people do the heavy lifting in their church and community. They stock food pantries, provide transportation, serve on countless committees, mentor young people, and provide loving care to those in need. They organize community services, build playgrounds, and spearhead projects. Their intentional, innovative, and inspirational service is just as notable for its continuing nature. These are our friends, neighbors, coworkers and church members who are intent on making the human journey one of joy and possibility.

The Hearts & Hands Awards will be given to members of the Lutheran church, who either through their job or as a volunteer, exemplify the qualities and achievements described in this nomination form.

The top winners will receive awards of $1,000; $500 and $250 for first, second and third place respectively. A requirement of the award is that winners use it to further their good works or to fund new initiatives.

The LFSVA Hearts & Hands Awards will be given to a youth or adult member of a Lutheran church. Employees of Lutheran Family Services of Virginia are not eligible.

Nominees may be honored for their work in either a paid or volunteer capacity. The nomination may be for a specific project or for achievement over time. Nominations using either approach must show the nominee’s excellence in at least one of the following categories:

  • outstanding service to their church or civic community
  • a history of advocacy that leads to positive change
  • dedication to improving services to children and families
  • commitment to a collective effort by engaging others (neighbors, church members, family members, colleagues, other agencies, business) to work toward a common goal
